Statement regarding self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)

10/10/2018

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) identified a potential issue with the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) sets worn by firefighters in September.

We implemented safety measures as a precautionary response and have been working with the supplier MSA to address the issue as a matter of priority.

We have conducted further tests and made the decision to remove the MSA sets from FRNSW fire trucks until further notice.

To ensure that our operational capability is maintained, replacement Draeger SCBA sets have been rolled out to FRNSW stations.

There is nothing more important than the safety of our firefighters and the public. All our fire stations remain equipped and ready to respond to fires and other emergencies across NSW.
