Fire and Rescue NSW crews battle major inner-city building fire - VIDEO - Darlington
Published: 30 Aug 2023 10:15am
Multiple Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are battling a fire in a multi-storey building at Darlington, in inner Sydney.
The blaze broke out around 8am today inside a third-floor apartment on Abercrombie Street, near Ivy Street.
The incident was quickly upgraded to a '3rd Alarm' level response, with FRNSW deploying more than 30 firefighters and 10 fire trucks to the scene.
Fire crews immediately began attacking the flames, whilst conducting an initial search of the building.
However, they were unable to enter the impacted unit.
The intense flames later caused parts of the building to collapse, forcing firefighters to withdraw.
They have since adopted a 'defensive' firefighting strategy, working to contain and extinguish the fire from a safe distance outside.
Neighbouring units and businesses have been evacuated, while nearby roads have been closed.
The public is urged to avoid the area as firefighting operations continue.
