Teams of four firefighters compete in the hard-fought competition with events such as “Urban Pumper Collector and Ladder”, “Booster Valve and High-Rise Bag” and “Rescue,” putting their teamwork, agility and focus to the test.

Reigning State Champions, Echuca Country Fire Authority (CFA), will travel from Victoria to compete. Echuca is fielding three teams, competing in memory of their late State Championship team member, Nathan Taylor.

The competing teams are Echuca A, B and C (CFA); Kelso; Kootingal (RFS); Rutherford; Saratoga; Terrigal; The Entrance, Trangie; Ulladulla; Wangi Wangi A and B; Wyoming A and B; Wyong A and B.

Spectators and media are welcome to attend the Championships, with the Official Opening Ceremony set to take place from 9:30am on Saturday.

Quotes attributable to FRNSW Acting Assistant Commissioner – Regional Operations, David Felton:

“This competition unites firefighters from across the state with our southern neighbours, and perhaps most importantly, tests and equips them with skills they can take back to their community.

“I’m delighted to see more firefighters getting involved and taking on the challenge.

“Our hosts, Wangi Wangi, first attended the competition at Coffs Harbour in 1972 and have hosted several Championships here at Swansea.

“At the end of the day, everyone is here to learn to better protect their communities, but I think the friendly rivalry between teams makes it all the more fun.”
