Car fire blocks eastbound lanes of Lane Cove Tunnel - Ryde

Published: 20 May 2025 11:08am

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has responded to a car fire that has partially blocked eastbound lanes of the Lane Cove tunnel at North Ryde.

FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls regarding the incident around 8.30 this morning.

Passing motorists attempted to assist the driver in putting out the fire in the vehicle’s engine compartment, however it reignited a short time later and flames engulfed the car, on approach to the tunnel.

Two FRNSW trucks and eight firefighters are on scene and have extinguished the fire.

FRNSW is working with traffic commanders to clear the scene and restore the peak hour flow.

One eastbound lane has just been reopened.
