Multiple crews from South Tamworth Fire Station responded to the incident and on arrival found a single storey townhouse fully involved with fire.
A number of residents were able to safely self evacuate from the complex and no injuries have been reported.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze just after 2pm and hand the site over to NSW Police who are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
With Fire and Rescue NSW crews attending numerous house fires this week, Acting Superintendent, Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for the residents to develop their fire escape plan.
"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency" he said.
