Vapour Cloud Evacuates Aquatic Centre - Hurstville

More than 150 people were evacuated from Hurstville Aquatic Centre following a¬†Hydrochloric Acid leak today¬†
Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were called to the scene when about 70 litres of Hydrochloric Acid leaked into a spa area of the centre just after 10 am releasing a vapour cloud into the communal area of the pool.¬†
Three adults and one child were treated on scene and transferred to hospital by NSW Ambulance.
The leak is thought to have occurred by a malfunction of an automated system within the pool's filtration system.¬†
The acid vapour has been cleared by a process of natural and fan-driven ventilation.¬†
FRNSW hazardous materials specialists are on scene in spillage suits, using equipment to monitor the air inside the centre and make it safe.

PENSHURST | 150 people have been evacuated from an aquatic centre on King Georges Rd following reports of a strong toxic smell. #FRNSW crews are currently assisting 5 children and 1 adult with breathing difficulties. FRNSW hazmat crews are responding to assist.
