House Fire - Helensburgh
Published: 12 Apr 2021 02:06am
More than 30 firefighters have managed to extinguish a large fire that broke out at a home on Bulgo Road, Helensburgh just after 2am this morning.
Numerous crews from across the Illawarra region arrived on scene a short time later and battled the blaze under windy conditions.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control and stop it from spreading to neighbouring properties, however the home was completely destroyed.
Two elderly residents were alerted to the fire due to a working smoke alarm and managed to safely evacuate the premises prior to firefighters arrival.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said FRNSW is attending numerous house fires and that it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.
"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
