School program request form

FRNSW has updated its fire safety education programs for children to ensure our approach aligns with current best practice. The updated programs have been designed to:

• Improve children's fire safety knowledge and skills,
• Facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skill into children's families, households, and communities,
• Reduce the risk children will misuse fire or be harmed by fire, and
• Enhance children's recognition of, and trust in, firefighters.

The updated programs consist of four teacher delivered lessons, one school fire evacuation drill, followed by one firefighter delivered session. While the teacher delivered lessons educate students about fire safety, the firefighter delivered session reiterates and consolidates learning, while encouraging the formation of positive relationships between children and firefighters.

All programs contain everything educators need to deliver the lessons, including Lesson Plans, Student Workbooks, and Educator/Teacher Resource Kits

Please note, the fire truck is no longer used as part of the education session. Fire truck play has engagement rather than educational outcomes. To organise a pure engagement activity, fire truck play can be booked separately through your local fire station. Planning and Delivery

To ensure our updated evidence-based programs are implemented correctly and consistently, planning and delivery must follow the steps below.

Step 1. Identify and Request

Identify Program Type

• Pre Ed (Early Years)
  For children aged 3 to 5 years who are in an Early Childhood Education or Care Service. Mapped to the Early Years Learning Framework. Learn more about Pre Ed (Early Years) here
• Pre Ed (Early Stage 1)
  For students aged 4 to 6 years who are in Kindergarten. Mapped to the Early Stage 1 curriculum. Learn more about Pre Ed (Early Stage 1) here
• Fire Ed 1 (Stage 1)
  For students aged 6 to 8 years who are in Years 1 and 2. Mapped to the Stage 1 curriculum. Learn more about Fire Ed 1 (Stage 1) here
