White Bay Hotel fire at Rozelle
Published: 6th September 2008
At midnight numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received about a fire in the White Bay Hotel on Victoria Road at Rozelle. Firefighters from Balmain, Leichhardt, Drummoyne, Glebe, Pyrmont, The Rocks, City of Sydney, and Hazmat specialists from Alexandria and Greenacre responded to the incident and on arrival found the two storey hotel ablaze. Soon after, indications of wall collapse became evident and a safety zone was established around the building. Fire crews were prevented from entering the building because of the structural instability of the building. Two hydraulic ladder fire engines were utilised to extinguish the deep seated fire. The structure did subsequently suffer partial collapse of the outer brick wall on the second level, bringing down the awning. The fire was extinguished in two and half hours and Victoria Road was closed as a safety precaution.
