***VISION ALERT*** Fire and Rescue NSW conducts hazard reduction operation on Sydney’s Northern Beaches - Allambie Heights

Published: 11 Sep 2024 03:33pm

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has completed a major hazard reduction operation to protect residents at Allambie Heights on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Eleven fire trucks, from FRNSW, the Rural Fire Service and Kuring-Gai Council, and their crews were tasked with burning around 11 hectares within Allenby Park.

FRNSW invested 30 hours in planning for the operation, which had been delayed three times due to poor weather.

Fire crews worked all day yesterday to reduce the heavy fuel load ahead of summer.

Firefighters continued to patrol the site last night and again today to prevent any spot fires reigniting.

FRNSW Bushfire Commander, Scott Donohoe, said agencies are taking any opportunities they can to safely reduce the fuel loads, whilst taking into account weather and impacts on the community.

“These hazard reduction activities will protect the community by lowering the risk of bushfires and providing residents with peace of mind as the weather warms up,” Superintendent Donohoe said.
