House Fire - East Maitland

Just after 5am, Fire and Rescue NSW received numerous calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a house fire on Blackett Close, East Maitland.

Multiple Fire Stations from the Newcastle Region responded to the incident and on arrival found large flames issuing through the roof of a two storey home.

Six residents managed to self evacuate however the family dog, Betty was trapped inside the home.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control and during operations noticed Betty had managed to climb onto the second storey balcony.

Crews were able to use a ladder platform to lift Betty safely from the balcony and into the arms of her worried owners.

NSW Ambulance were also in attendance, however no injuries were reported. NSW Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
