Gas main fire - Newington

Just after 9:30pm Thursday 9 September, Fire and Rescue NSW were called to reports of a ruptured gas line which had caught fire on the Avenue of Americas, Newington.
Upon arrival crews found the gas line well alight with flames reaching more than two meters in height. Over 20 firefighters from across Sydney's West attended the incident and set up an exclusion zone to protect a nearby petrol station.
Firefighters worked into the night to render the area safe with assistance from the utility company. A number of roads were closed as a result of the incident however these have now reopened.
