Published: 25 Aug 2020 09:07am

Shortly after 9am, Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Inner Sydney responded to a car fire, North bound in the Harbour Tunnel. Peak hour traffic at a standstill as a result.

Firefighters from Neutral Bay Fire Station were first on the scene and reported that the car was well alight.

Smoke issuing from the vehicle had triggered the sprinklers in the tunnel however, it was not enough to stop the fire.

Crews were able to control the fire and extinguish it with additional hose lines from the truck, quickly.

Police are on the scene directing traffic.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Traffic is extremely heavy in the area. Please drive with caution.
