Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have evacuated around 40 residents from an apartment block during a car park fire at Guildford, in Sydney's west, overnight.

The fire broke out in a vehicle in the basement of the Woodville Road property around 10.30pm.

They escorted the residents of the four-storey block to safety as a precaution.

A 40-year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital.

Firefighters ventilated the car park and declared the all-clear just before midnight, allowing residents to return to their homes.
