Fire crews douse yacht fire - Brunswick Heads
Published: 17 Jun 2022 11:27am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a yacht on fire in a marina at Brunswick Heads on the state's north coast.
FRNSW trucks from Brunswick Heads, Tweed Heads, Mullumbimby and Goonellabah arrived at the marina in Harbour Way just after 4pm yesterday to find large volumes of black smoke coming from the docked 40-foot vessel.
Firefighters put on protective equipment, personal flotation devices (PFDs) and breathing apparatus, before approaching the fiberglass yacht.
Fearing the boat would sink, firefighters, using multiple lines of hose, were able to get onboard to extinguish the blaze that had spread throughout the vessel's interior.
A 70-year-old man, suffering shock, burns and smoke inhalation, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and later cleared.
Marine Rescue and NSW Police assisted from the water and dock, deploying booms and setting up lighting.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
