Bystanders rescued five people, trapped inside the burning wreckage of a two car crash last night at Liverpool in Sydney's south-west.
The collision occurred around 8.40 pm on Elizabeth Drive.
Three Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) trucks rushed to the scene amid reports of fuel tanks exploding and people stuck in the vehicles.
Other motorists and passersby had extricated those trapped whilst a sixth person made it to safety on their own.
All six were transported to hospital for treatment.
Firefighters extinguished one of the cars which was engulfed by flames and then doused a trail of burning fuel at the scene, where traffic was blocked in both directions.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
