Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews from western NSW worked through the night to extinguish two trucks following a head-on crash.
The fire at the Kamilaroi Highway crash scene near Brewarrina, in the state's north-west, took just over an hour to contain through the combined efforts of FRNSW and the Rural Fire Service.
However, the crashed vehicles remained very hot and required ongoing efforts to completely extinguish.
NSW Police confirmed that both drivers were killed in the impact.
FRNSW liaised with representatives from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and worked to limit any contamination from the runoff of water used to fight the blaze.
The scene was secured by police until their investigations at the scene were completed early this morning.
