House severely damaged by fire - Corlette

Published: 19 Feb 2022 03:27am

A garage has exploded in flames and set fire to an adjoining house this morning at Corlette, in Port Stephens, in the state's Hunter region.

Just before 3:30am, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters from Salamander Bay Fire Station arrived at the Bottlenose Street address to find the residents had escaped the burning home.

The owner was awoken by a large bang and discovered the garage alight.

The garage contained a large amount of flammable material and was well alight with flames visible through the roof.

The flames and extreme heat, generated by those contents, spread to the adjoining house.

Crews from FRNSW contained the blaze but the house was severely damaged by fire.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
