Solar Panel Fire - Denham Court
Published: 14 Feb 2022 12:45pm
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) have extinguished a fire in a solar power control panel, saving a house at Denham Court, in Sydney's south-west.
Firefighters from Horningsea Park Fire Station responded to the emergency in Honeymyrtle Avenue around 12.45pm yesterday.
They discovered smoke issuing from an isolator switch for solar panels.
The crew used a couple of hand-held CO2 extinguishers to put out the fire.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or further damage to the house.
Fire crews monitored the temperature of the switch using a thermal imaging camera until it was declared safe.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
