Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have battled a fatal blaze this morning in a duplex apartment at Northmead in Sydney's West.
With a person unaccounted for, crews immediately gained access to the property when they arrived at Hammers Road at 9:30 am.
More than 30 firefighters, in specialised breathing apparatus, battled the flames while setting up protection hoses to ensure a neighbouring property remained safe.
Crews extinguished the fire that had spread throughout the home.
One person was located deceased inside the premises.
FRNSW Investigation Research Unit will be onsite to help determine the cause of the fire.
Superintendent Scott Dodson from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
