Published: 31 Oct 2021 07:58am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) assisted NSW Ambulance to extricate a man trapped 500 metres down a bike track at Westleigh near Hornsby this morning.
It took rescuers over an hour to move the rider to safety after crews arrived at Quarter Session Road around 8:00 AM to find a man suffering critical injuries from a mountain bike crash.
The injured rider was then transported by helicopter to the hospital.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) when you are involved in or see a crash can be the difference between life and death.
The Triple Zero (000) service is the quickest way to get the right resources from emergency services to help you. It should be used to contact Police, Fire or Ambulance services in life-threatening or time-critical situations.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said a large amount of electrical energy is discharged when lightning strikes a house, tree or car.
Community members are urged to keep up to date with local weather events that may impact their area.
"During a storm, stay indoors where possible to protect yourself, your loved ones and your pets. However, in the event of a fire, get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000).”
