Published: 20 Jun 2021 03:58am
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has urged residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms installed in their homes after a house in Auburn was totally destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.
FRNSW crews were called to the Carrington Street property to find it already well alight.
Around 30 firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the fire and protect neighbouring properties.
Firefighters donned breathing apparatus to conduct a search of the premises however no one was inside at the time of the fire.
The single level house was totally destroyed and there was smoke and heat damage to neighbouring buildings.
NSW Police and NSW Ambulance were also in attendance.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said FRNSW is attending numerous house fires and that it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.
"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
