Unit Fire - Leichhardt

Just before 5pm this evening, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) responded to multiple triple zero (000) calls reporting a unit alight.

While responding, crews reported large volumes of smoke issuing from a building on Allen St, Leichhardt.

First arriving crews reported large volumes of smoke coming from the ground floor unit in a block of four.

Firefighters immediately gained entry with hose lines to extinguish the blaze. Other crews worked to check neighboring units for fire spread.

Four occupants of the building have been evacuated.

NSW Police also in attendance.

Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said FRNSW is attending numerous house fires and that it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.

"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
