Kitchen fire - Riverstone
Published: 09 Sep 2020 08:01pm
Just after 8pm this evening Fire and Rescue NSW was called to reports of a kitchen fire at Castlereagh St, Riverstone.
Triple Zero (000) calls stated there was an oil fire on the stove that burnt through a fire blanket the resident attempted to use to smother the flames.
First arriving crews found smoke issuing from the single level home and quickly entered with hose-lines to extinguish the fire and stop any spread to the remainder of the home.
A burst water main is hampering firefighting efforts, Sydney Water has been notified.
One male occupant was evacuated from the home with burns requiring treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended and it was important the community remembered to keep looking when cooking.
"If your cooking catches fire, never use water to put out a fat or oil fire, turn off the stove if it is safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000)."
