Just before 4:30pm yesterday afternoon, Fire and Rescue NSW received a Triple Zero (000) call reporting an ammonia leak from a refrigerator plant on the Gwydir Highway, Inverell.

Crews from Inverell and Glen Innes Fire Stations, including HAZMAT experts, arrived on scene to find approximately 200 people had self evacuated.

NSW Ambulance attended the incident, although no injuries were reported.

Gwydir Highway was closed in both directions near Fernhill Road, however it has since reopened.
