Church fire in Gorokan

In the early hours of this morning firefighters from Toukley, Hamlyn Terrace, Bateau Bay, Hazmat specialists from Berkley Vale and the Duty Commander responded to a fire in a church in Marks Road, Gorokan. The first fire crews, who were on scene in nine minutes, reported the front of the church engulfed in flames. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus mounted an attack on the fire and were able to contain and extinguish the blaze saving the remainder of the structure. The fire caused severe damage to the front of the church with the rest of the building suffering smoke damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
