2008 NSWFB State Firefighter Championships - Nowra Fire Station in the Lead

With just two days of competition left in the 2008 NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) State Firefighter Championships, 34 teams of firefighters have a tough road ahead of them if they are going to catch Nowra Fire Station, which is currently in the lead on 1003 points.

Over the past three days, retained, or on-call, firefighters from across NSW, Queensland, Victoria and New Zealand have been battling it out in Tamworth for the title of State Champion. So far, firefighters have competed in 10 of 16 events including the Ladder Practice, Urban Pump Collector and Ladder and Hose and Hydrant events.

Kelso Fire Station is in second place on 751 points, with Coffs Harbour Fire Station not far behind on 515 points.

Of the teams competing in the invitational division of the competition, Echuca Fire Brigade from Victoria is currently in first place on 1300, closely followed by the local NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) team from Kootingal on 1088 points.

Firefighters will enjoy a rest day tomorrow before resuming competition on Thursday in the six remaining events including the Rescue event, the 600 gallon collector event and the Veterans Suction event.

The 2008 NSWFB State Firefighter Championships conclude on Friday 24 October.
