Fire in a school in Ashmont

Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received this evening to a fire in a school in Bardia Street, Ashmont. Firefighters from Turvey Park, Wagga Wagga and the Duty Commander attended the incident with the first crews arriving within five minutes to find smoke billowing from a building. Quick actions by firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus and using several fire hoses, contained the fire to the canteen saving surrounding classrooms. The canteen suffered severe damage and the nearby classrooms heat and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
