Fuel Tanker Fire, Moree

At 7.30 am Firefighters from Moree, Narrabri and Tamworth received a call to a fuel tanker alight 40km North of Moree on the Newell Hwy. On arrival crews found a fuel tanker carrying 28000ltrs of diesel on fire. The prime mover had been disconnected and the driver was found unharmed and in a safe location. An exclusion zone of 1 km was set up around the fire with the Newell Hwy blocked in both directions. This was a protracted incident that took nine hours to extinguish. The incident involved resources from the NSW Fire Brigades, Police, Ambulance, Local Council, RTA, RFS and consultation with the Tanker Company. The Newell Hwy suffered significant damage and was partly reopened by the RTA at 9.00pm that evening.
