Cootamundra fire

Published: 14th October 2007

An automatic fire alarm alerted firefighters from Cootamundra and Harden to a fire in a retirement village in Scott Avenue Cootamundra. When fire crews arrived at the scene they found a fire in one room and quickly began a staged evacuated of the surrounding residents first and then those further from the incident while also extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters contained the fire to the one room and accounted for all residents. A large fan was used to remove the smoke from the building and one person was treated for smoke inhalation. The room on fire and an awning were severely damaged and the residents from the fire affected area were relocated.
