Petersham building fire

A fire on the second level of a two storey building in Crystal Street in Petersham was extinguished by fire crews from Marrickville, Leichhardt and Ashfield. The first firefighters were on scene within five minutes to assist 10 residents evacuate the building. While some fire crews ensured that the fire was extinguished, other crews rescued a further three residents. Several people were treated by ambulance officers for smoke inhalation. Firefighters ventilated the heavily smoke logged building with large fans and assisted with clean up work to minimise damage.
