Storm assistance from firefighters

Published: 9th June 2007

Storms and flooding continued across the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney Metropolitan areas today, and the NSWFB attended hundreds of incidents. For the second day, the NSWFB deployed a strike team to Terrey Hills to support the SES. Two strike teams, with a total of eight fire engines and 32 firefighters and officers, were deployed from the greater Sydney area to assist SES efforts in Erina and Wyong. A strike team of four fire engines and 16 firefighters was sent to assist in Newcastle. Nine of the firefighters were recruits from the Training College. A strike team of 20 firefighters from Kempsey, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie was deployed to the northern side of the Hunter River, ensuring NSWFB resources were positioned on both sides of the river in case of possible overnight flooding.
