NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Commissioner Greg Mullins today conveyed his sympathy and that of the NSWFB to the families of a fire officer who died and four fire officers who were injured in a traffic accident at Glenfield this morning.

"This is a sad and tragic day for the NSW Fire Brigades and all the firefighters and support staff. We have lost a member of our Fire Brigades family," Commissioner Mullins said.

"I want to express my deepest sympathy for the family of the fire officer who has died and for the four fire officers who have been injured, as well as their families," he said.

"I would also like to commend the fire officers and other emergency services personnel who attended the scene and handled the rescue professionally under such trying circumstances."

Commissioner Mullins said the fire truck and crew were responding under lights and sirens to an emergency when there was an accident, causing the truck to hit a tree.

The accident is being investigated by Police.

Fire Officers, Ambulance Officers and Police responded to the scene where Fire Brigades Rescue Officers had to cut their colleagues from the wreckage.

Commissioner Mullins attended the scene to support his staff.

"My priority is to do everything possible to assist the people affected by this tragedy," he said.

Commissioner Mullins said it was not appropriate to release the names of those affected at this time.
