Pharmacy Fire, Lane Cove
Published: 6th July 2006
Shortly after 5 am on 6 July 2006, the NSW Fire Brigades received triple zero calls to a building on fire in Lane Cove. Fire crews from Lane Cove and Crows Nest were immediately responded. The Lane Cove crew was on the scene seven minutes later to confirm large volumes of smoke issuing from a two level brick building. Firefighters put on air cylinders to investigate the source of the smoke and found a well-advanced fire in a pharmacy with a dance studio above. Additional resources were requested and a fire crew from Willoughby was sent to assist. Twenty firefighters were committed to this incident.
As crews attacked the fire in the pharmacy, other firefighters searched the building for occupants. Fortunately the building was unoccupied. The fire crews concentrated on containing the fire in the pharmacy to prevent it from spreading to the other shops in the complex. The fire was contained within 30 minutes. Firefighters stayed at the scene until around 7 am ensuring the fire was completely out, mopping up and assisting with investigations into the cause of the fire.
The fire severely damaged the pharmacy, but the fire crews saved the rest of the building and the other shops in the complex. There were no injuries.
