Petrol station fire Narwee

Midmorning today NSWFB Comms Centre in Sydney started receiving numerous Triple Zero calls to a petrol station on fire in Broad Arrow Rd, Narwee. Firefighters from Riverwood, Mortdale and Lakemba were responded to the scene. On arrival the firefighters have identified a fire involving the fuel bowsers, a car, and threatening to spread to the shop, at which point they upgraded the response. Firefighters from Hurstville, Revesby, Kogarah, Campsie, Hurstville, Alexandria, a Hazmat unit from Greenacre and the Duty Commander from Kogarah responded to assist. Firefighters confirmed that the service station attendant had shut the emergency fuel shutoffs. Whilst some firefighters began the firefighting effort, others concentrated on evacuating people from the surrounding buildings. Firefighters stop the fire spreading to the shop, and extinguishment was completed around lunchtime. A woman was filling up a mower fuel can at the time of the blaze. The cause is being investigated.
