House fire in Mayfield

This evening fire crews from Mayfield West, Hamilton, Carrington, Newcastle, Hazmat specialists from Newcastle and the Duty Commander responded to a house on fire in Barton Street, Mayfield. Firefighters were on scene in seven minutes to find smoke pouring from the rear of the single level premises. The fire had travelled into the roof area and crews were able to stop the fire spreading further. The two rear rooms suffered severe damage and the roof area minor damage. One occupant was treated by ambulance paramedics for smoke inhalation.
