Special Lion Dance blessing for Australia’s busiest fire station

Published: 20 Feb 2026

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has welcomed the lunar New Year with a special Lion dance inside Australia’s busiest fire station.

FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, was the guest of honour as the Chinese Youth League’s Lion and Dragon dance troupe blessed the engine bays of the 138-year-old City of Sydney station.

The performance symbolises the warding off of evil spirits and the promotion of good fortune and happiness.

Quotes attributed to Commissioner Fewtrell: “The traditional performance highlights FRNSW’s close ties to Sydney’s Chinese communities and businesses.

“It’s a colourful gesture that lifts everyone’s spirits as we welcome the Year of the Horse.”
