Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are at Wattle Street in Ultimo after the partial collapse of a seven-metre-high building.
Firefighters responded at around 11am after a wall collapsed onto an adjoining service station, with debris damaging several parked vehicles.
Two people were removed and transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance. Workers from the collapsed building site self-evacuated.
The service station has been closed as a precaution, and its employees have been evacuated.
Some neighbouring buildings have also been cleared.
Specialist FRNSW Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) firefighters are on scene while crews assess the building for signs of further structural collapse.
Two traffic lanes on Wattle Street remain closed between Macarthur Street and Kelly Street.
Members of the public are urged to stay away from the area and the ongoing incident.
