Fire crews have extinguished a major fuel tanker blaze following a road crash today at Londonderry, in Sydney’s north-west.
The LPG tanker collided with a car at the corner of Bowman and Carrington Roads just before 2pm.
The occupants of the vehicles made it to safety before the truck caught fire. One person was assessed at the scene and transported to hospital.
Declaring a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) operation, FRNSW responded with nine fire trucks and 36 firefighters, joining Rural Fire Service crews, Police and Ambulance paramedics at the incident.
Authorities established a 500-metre exclusion zone around the site in case of explosion as firefighters attacked the flames on several fronts.
They also doused a grass fire that ignited nearby.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
