Firefighters battle major fire at an SES facility

Around 50 firefighters and a dozen fire engines have responded to a major fire in a State Emergency Service (SES) facility today at Wyong, on the state’s Central Coast.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews rushed to the depot in Levitt Street just after 11.15 and were confronted by a huge cloud of black smoke.
The first firefighters on scene quickly established a defensive perimeter to stop the flames from spreading to neighbouring properties and vehicles.
Two buildings including the Wyong Scout Hall have been saved.
Crews fought from multiple sides for more than three hours to bring the fire under control.
They were joined by NSW Police, Ambulance crews and energy technicians at the scene of the fourth alarm blaze.
FRNSW used a ladder platform and a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) or drone, with thermal imaging technology, to monitor the fire from above.
No-one was injured in the incident although FRNSW issued an emergency alert at the height of the blaze, warning local residents about the smoke plume.
FRNSW investigators and liquid ignition detection dog, Xenos, have just arrived at the scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is not suspicious at this stage.
