More than 185 Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters are battling a huge factory fire and hazardous materials emergency this morning at North St Marys in Sydney’s west.

The blaze in a facility, containing chemical supplies, in Kurrajong Road broke out just before 11 o’clock last night, sending flames 15 metres into the air, amid reports of at least one explosion.

When FRNSW crews arrived, they found the building totally involved in flames.

Forty six fire engines from across the Greater Sydney Area, including aerial platforms, Hazmat (hazardous materials) units and bulk water carriers have responded to the emergency as firefighters fight the blaze from three sides.

Fire crews are working to prevent the flames spreading to neighbouring properties and contain any environmental risk posed by chemicals inside the premises.

The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is assisting with at least two bulk water tankers while Police and NSW Ambulance crews have also responded.

The Environment Protection Authority is also at the scene.

There have been no reports of injuries and all emergency services remain accounted for.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Residents in the area are being urged to keep their doors and windows closed during the emergency and to monitor media for further updates.
