Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is investigating the cause of a fatal house fire in Sydney’s inner west overnight.
Just after 4am, multiple Triple Zero (000) calls were received, reporting a house fire in Irrara Street, Croydon.
Firefighters arrived to find the single-level home well alight, with flames penetrating the roof.
Six fire trucks and 22 firefighters attacked the blaze and began a search for occupants.
Due to intense flames at the front of the home, they forced entry at the rear.
As crews battled the blaze, part of the roof collapsed, forcing them to withdraw to a safer position outside to contain the fire.
Tragically, the body of one person was later found in the home.
FRNSW’s Fire Investigation and Research Unit (FIRU) and NSW Police are investigating the blaze, particularly its origin and cause.
