Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has dispatched additional specialist crews to assist with the SES-led emergency flood response on the state’s mid-north and north coasts.
Four new land-based Strike Teams from Sydney and the state’s Central West are heading to Coffs Harbour to assist.
Firefighters, trained in carrying out Rapid Damage Assessments (RDA’s), are also heading north and FRNSW’s Aviation team has deployed additional Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) or drones, including a heavy-lifting aerial platform, to assist with those assessments as well as food and medical drops.
On route to Kempsey is FRNSW’s ‘hytrans’ Bulk Water Transfer unit, capable of dispersing large volumes of floodwater.
FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, says the preservation of life and property is the firefighter’s priority.
“Rest assured FRNSW is in the field to help…there is a lot of experience, special qualifications and expertise that our crews are bringing with them, Commissioner Fewtrell said.
