Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters are on scene at a house fire in Emu Heights, at the foot of the Blue Mountains.
Just after 4am this morning, more than 40 firefighters and ten fire trucks, including an aerial ladder truck, responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls to a fire in the front of the two-level home on Strathdon Road.
Firefighters reported seeing large volumes of smoke and fire as they approached the scene from across the Nepean River.
On arrival, crews found the home well-alight and quickly got to work to attack the blaze.
The fire caused significant structural collapse of the second level, making it difficult to extinguish. It took approximately 2 hours to contain, and crews continued to work through the morning to fully extinguish the fire.
Seven residents and two pets managed to self-evacuate safely.
Operations are expected to continue for several hours. Once the fire is fully extinguished, FRNSW investigators will examine the origin and cause of the fire.
