Unit complex damaged by blaze | Whalan

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have extinguished a blaze that has caused severe damage to a three-level unit complex in Whalan, in Sydney's west, overnight.
Just after 9,45pm, more than 28 firefighters and nine fire trucks, responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls to a fire on the top-floor unit of the Halinda Street complex.
On arrival, firefighters were faced with a fully involved fire on the third level, with flames extending through windows and spreading into the roof space.
Firefighters quickly got to work to extinguish the fire while searching for any remaining occupants and evacuating the property. Fifteen residents were able to self-evacuate prior to crews arriving.
An aerial ladder truck was used to attack the fire from above, given the significant structural damage, including a partial roof collapse.
It took crews approximately 90 minutes to contain the blaze. They continued to work for several more hours to fully extinguish the fire.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the top level of the building, however there were no injuries reported.
The fire is being treated as suspicious, and FRNSW fire investigators and NSW Police are on scene today to investigate the origin and cause of the blaze.
