LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGE? BECOME A PART-TIME FIREFIGHTER
Published: 14th November 2008
The NSWFB is calling on community-minded people from all walks of life to join the NSWFB as part-time firefighters.Almost anyone can be a firefighter. Stay at home mums and dads, small business owners, council workers, miners, pilots, nurses!
Part-time, or retained, firefighters are 'on-call' from home or work rather than being on duty at a station. They play a vital role in regional and rural communities, fighting fires and attending other emergencies but also ensuring that the local residents have the knowledge they need to protect themselves against the threat of fire.
Meet Rebecca Seckold - a mother of two young children and a former hairdresser, she joined Taree Fire Station a few months ago and hasn’t looked back. She has already attended a number of house fires and car fires and thoroughly enjoys her new career.
