Maitland shop fire

Published: 11th November 2008

Firefighters from East Maitland, Telarah, Maitland, Morpeth, Kurri Kurri, Hazmat specialists from Newcastle and the Duty Commander responded to a fire in a shopping mall in High Street, Maitland early this morning. The first fire crews to arrive reported smoke pouring from the building and that several windows had been blown out. Firefighters used a power saw to gain access to the fire and crews wearing breathing apparatus began an attack on the fire. The fire was located in a shoe store and while fire crews removed stock to help put the fire out other crews checked adjoining areas for any fire spread. The fire caused damage to both the stores structure and contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
