Evacuations in Lidcombe fire

Fire crews from Lidcombe and Silverwater responded to an automatic fire alarm (AFA) in Nyrang Street, Lidcombe this evening. On arrival firefighters found a fire in an engine room and a leak of ammonia and called for the assistance of Hazmat firefighters from Greenacre and the Duty Commander. An exclusion zone was established and 53 people were evacuated from the building and a further 100 people evacuated from an adjoining premises. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and working with an on-site technician, firefighters in protective suits isolated the leak. Air sampling was carried out to ensure the area was safe and all run-off water was contained at the site.
