Hazmat incidents

Published: 2nd October 2008

Firefighters and Hazmat specialists were involved in three linked hazmat incidents this morning. A delivery truck dropped off containers of pool chemicals to three different addresses in Castle Cove, Vaucluse and Randwick. All three containers of chemicals were reacting and emitting gas, rising in temperature and in one location the lid had popped off. Fire crews isolated the bins to prevent further problems. Two people were treated by ambulance officers and the chemicals were neutralised by either placing into a swimming pool or placing into hazmat bins. Firefighters liaised with a company representative to contact the delivery truck to ensure that no further deliveries were made.
