Waste transfer station fire

Firefighters from Matraville, Botany, Maroubra, Mascot, Woollahra, Randwick, City of Sydney, Arncliffe and the Duty Commander responded to a fire in a waste transfer station in Military Road, Matraville late this evening. Fire crews were on scene within six minutes to find large plumes of smoke coming from the smoke logged building which contained a huge pile of burning rubbish. A bulldozer was used to break up the rubbish pile allowing firefighters in breathing apparatus to use fire hoses to extinguish the blaze.
